RUN FOR SIGHT: A Beacon of Hope for Those in Darkness







Bangalore, September 3, 2023Narayana Nethralaya successfully hosted the “Run for Sight” event on September 2, 2023, as part of the 38th National Eye Donation Fortnight, which ran from August 25 to September 8, 2023. This midnight run was dedicated to raising awareness about eye donation and combating corneal blindness, a persistent public health issue in India affecting approximately 68 lakh people.
The event, aimed to illuminate lives, brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds including adults and children to unite for the noble cause of eye donation. There was an overwhelming response of 255 online and 28 registrations on the spot.
The event was graced by the esteemed Maj Gen Ravi Murugan, AVSM, GOC, K & K Sub Area, Guest of Honors included Dr. S. D. Sharanappa, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bengaluru City, and Sri Kovid Mittal, Model and Actor.
The event was flagged off by the Chief Guest Maj Gen Ravi Murugan, AVSM, GOC, K & K Sub Area, followed by him participating in the 5k Run.
Cash prizes were awarded to the winners in the 5k and 10k run that include:

Second Prize: Chandana Kalika
Third Prize: Devika
The Chief Guest, Maj Gen Ravi Murugan, AVSM, stated, “I compliment all of you who have shown the discipline at this late hour to have come here to participate in this event. For every step you take, overcoming the barriers of physical effort. Hopefully, that should dispel the misconceptions of eye donation in the minds of the people amongst whom we wish to spread this awareness. So hopefully, our efforts today should bring light to the lives of those who deserve it.”

Sharanappa, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bengaluru City, stated, “Eye donation is the biggest donation to mankind; it is priceless, and everyone should consider donating their eyes for the betterment of society. Our beloved Dr. Rajkumar and his family have set an inspiring example by personally donating and advocating for the mission, contributing immensely to the cause of eye donation.”
